This wonderful old home was built from 1904-1907 by Harvey Gordon Starkweather.  His father, William A. Starkweather came to the Oregon territory in 1850 and served in the territorial legislature and at the constitutional convention in 1857.  He later served in the state legislature.  His uncle, Harvey Gordon, for whom he was named, designed the state seal of Oregon and was the first state printer.

Harvey was born in 1868 in the Concord area of Clackamas county where his father had settled.  When he was a boy he would hunt and fish alongside the Willamette River and visit the Indian families who lived there.  As a young man he married Alice Risley from another prominent pioneer family in the area and they raised five children. After his first wife died, he eventually married Eva Newman (whose grandparents were Oregon pioneers) and raised two more daughters in the home. Mr. Starkweather was very involved in education and politics throughout his life.  Nancy Hersey, his youngest daughter, has shared with us some of her memories growing up in this house.  Click here for a good read.

Originally, the house had six bedrooms. The home has recently been restored and renovated and now includes four uniquely decorated guestrooms.  Three covered porches, each with a porch swing, are the perfect place to sit in the afternoon and enjoy a cold glass of lemonade in the summer or a hot mug of cider in the fall. Also included in the renovation was the addition of a home theater room for our guests to enjoy.  Watching a favorite movie or sporting event on our 120" movie screen is a special treat.

hussyhussy The Bed and Breakfast is situated between Portland and historic Oregon City - a ten to fifteen minute drive in either direction. In close proximity are shopping malls, antique stores and districts, medical centers, educational institutions, amusement parks, outdoor recreational areas, historical museums, cinemas, and restaurants.
